"Substance-Use Disorders & Reentry: Recovery, Harm Reduction & New Beginnings."
Many people with substance-use disorders returning home from incarceration face major barriers to consistent treatment and recovery support.
This episode explores treatment access before and after release, relapse prevention, and harm reduction, and the success stories that show recovery is possible when people receive support -- not punishment.
Our guest is Helen “Skip” Skipper, executive director of the NYC Justice Peer Initiative and a certified peer and recovery peer specialist. Drawing on her lived experience with substance use, homelessness, incarceration, and reentry, she advocates for peer-led recovery support, harm reduction, community-based treatment, and alternatives to incarceration.
