Aztlan Academy "Yo Soy el Corrido"

Episode Description Through the arts of music, song and dance, the Aztlan Academy engages in social issues of public concern directly affecting the lives of the citizenry. California’s Proposition 187 was placed on the ballot decades ago and the Academy joined social oriented organizations in opposition. “YO SOY EL CORRIDO” has been a concert series through the years presenting the core of social political issues through orientation and education for the masses. Segments of the original full-length concert were performed in front of city halls, churches, plazas, shopping centers and union halls from Sacramento to Bakersfield, advocating organizational efforts to motivate citizens to register and vote in our country’s participatory democracy. Carmencristina Moreno, musician, singer, composer and teacher, is a NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS – National Heritage Fellow and Guillermo Velazquez, musician, singer, composer and poet, the distinguished trovador of “Los Leones de la Sierra de Xichú” of Guanajuato, México, are eminent folklorists who artistically joined The Aztlan Academy in the production of “LA 187”.Through the arts of music, song and dance, the Aztlan Academy engages in social issues of public concern directly affecting the lives of the citizenry.
